The Outdoor Group is a recreational and social group that gathers to share outdoor experiences, primarily hiking. We generally hike on the second and fourth Saturday mornings during the cool months. Our goals are to share strength in fellowship as well as encourage a love of the outdoors and our environment. For more information or to be added to our mailing list, please email us at outdoorgroup@phoenixuu.org.

  • UUCP Outdoor Group April Hike

Enjoy a hike, hopefully with wildflowers, to Balance Rock form the Granite Mountain Trail in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, North Region, on Saturday April 13 with Julie Smart as your hike leader.

Meet at the Granite Mt parking lot trailhead at 7:45 AM to start the hike at 8:15 AM. Restrooms are available at the trailhead.

This is a relatively easy hike of approximately 5 miles. Dogs on leash are welcome. Remember to bring water, hat, snacks, sunscreen, and hiking poles if you use them. Recommend good footwear.

Directions: From the 101, take the Pina/Princess exit and turn north (right turn) onto Pima Road. Continue to Dynamite Rd and turn right. Turn left on 136th St and follow signs to the trail head. The entrance will be on your left.

After the hike, join others at a nearby restaurant for continued fellowship.
