The hike on January 28 will have 2 options: a 4.4 or 6.6 mile loop.

Location: Gateway Trailhead: 18333 N Thompson Peak Parkway, Scottsdale, 85255.

Meeting time: Meet at the trailhead at 8:45am to start hiking at 9:00am.

Hike Description: We will all start together, anyone doing the extension will split off after about 1.6 miles.

Longer Hike: Those who want the longer hike will take the 2.2 mile extension to the Gateway loop, an out and back to Inspiration Point, about 500 ft additional elevation gain, and then finish the Gateway Loop.

Shorter Hike: Those that want to do the shorter trail will stay on the Gateway Loop Trail for the entire hike.

Don’t forget to bring water, wear sunscreen and a hat. Due to the rocky trail, wearing hiking boots preferable. Bring trekking poles if you use them.

After the hike, which should take 2.5 – 3 hours, depending on the route there are multiple options for coffee, etc. afterward, so TBD.

See you then! Contact information is in the hike flyer.

Also, please check the calendar. If there is an open date and you would like to lead a hike, please send an email to outdoorgroup@phoenixuu.org with the date and location of the hike to be added to the calendar.

Dixie Mt Loop Hike 1-14-2023 Review

Eleven individuals and one dog met under cloudy skies, with a few peaks of sunshine, to enjoy the Dixie Mt Loop Trail in the Phoenix Sonoran Desert Preserve. Everyone decided to do the Dixie Loop only without the extension. Easy elevation changes and wide trails, relatively rock free, gave the ability to engage in conversation. A short jaunt up a summit trail enabled us to see the trail down below and beautiful vistas of the surrounding mountains and desert. With the recent rains, everything was very green. Six individuals went for food and continued conversation after the hike.
