An Even Dozen Hike Granite Mountain

The hike on January 8 was enjoyed by 12 enthusiastic hikers. Granite Mountain is always a thing of beauty because the huge boulders on the backside never cease to require a pause to admire. The conversation was rich and constant, and almost before we knew it, we were around the loop and back at the trailhead—6 miles done. Welcome to Annette who hiked with us for the first time. We hope to see you again.

Ringtail Trail to Sunrise Trail

Our next adventure will be on Saturday, January 22, in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. Geriann Engle will be leading the way up Ringtail to Sunrise Trail. There will be some elevation gain on this one, and she is offering three alternatives. The first has a gain of 875 feet and is 3.8 miles roundtrip. The question to ask yourself is can I handle a bit of a climb and manage 3.8 miles without stopping. From there you will be able to determine whether you are up for more. It is always a good idea to be honest with yourself as to your ability. Ringtail Flyer

As usual there will be an opportunity for coffee, snack, and conversation after the hike.

If you are up for this one, put on those boots and come join us. It is a great way to spend a Saturday morning and connect with some fun people!

Calendar

If you haven’t already found it, notice the link to the Outdoor Group calendar in the sidebar on the right. That is the place to go to see how the rest of the season lines up.

Sunset Crater Campout

We have a reservation at Sunset Crater National Monument for a spring campout May 20-22. Detailed information will be coming as we get closer to the date. Put it on your calendar to save the date! You will not want to miss this!

Keeping It Safe

At the beginning of each hike, we will gather to introduce ourselves, distanced, and ask what everyone is comfortable with. We will also make room for everyone to talk about what they are not comfortable with. This is to be part of the normal discussion, and we ask that you speak out about what you are not comfortable with. Stay safe, and I hope to see you soon, live and in person, 6 feet away. As always you can get more information by emailing outdoorgroup@phoenixuu.org.
