The Traveling 2nd Fridays group provides enjoyable and informative programs of slides and lectures about cultures and natural beauty around the world, presented by congregation members who have visited those locations. We typically host 6 1-hour presentations per year, offered on the second Friday of each month from January through June. During the pandemic, our gatherings have been via Zoom.

For such a small nation, Iceland boasts an incredible array of landscapes and interesting history. The sagas of ancient Iceland were probably the inspiration for Tolkien’s The Hobbit. Our small group circumvented the island in a small bus and the sights we saw included mountains and valleys, craters, ancient volcanoes and ash, geysers and bubbling hot pools like our Yellowstone park, glaciers, and many beautiful waterfalls. We climbed on a glacier and I only fell once! While there are not many indigenous animals, we spotted whales and watched a puffin perform. If you’ve ever thought about Iceland, I say, “Go!”
