Ringtail Trail Brought Out 16 Optimistic People

Saturday, January 22 was windy, rainy, and cold; yet 16 enthusiastic people showed up to hike the Ringtail trail in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. We did, in fact, have some real raindrops fall on our circle as we counted off to begin the hike; however, after that we were not bothered by real rain. The hike was a steady uphill effort with only a couple of saddles for a breather. On top it was cold and windy! The picture clearly illustrates the danger to hats from the wind.

Conversation, as always, was lively. We particularly are very pleased to see so many new folks join us. What a great way to spend a Saturday morning! Thank you everyone! And, of course, some enjoyed a bite to eat and coffee after the hike! Thank you, Geri, for leading a good one!

Spur Cross Loop Up Next

February 12 will be another favorite hike. Spur Cross Ranch has it all—desert, creek, grasslands, matete, and lily pond. A beautiful area that has been preserved for us to enjoy, and enjoy we will! Gary Ezzell will be leading us on a moderate 5.6 mile hike with an elevation gain of 620 feet. The question to ask yourself for this one is, can I hike almost 6 miles with only a few short breaks and can I hike on a rough, rocky path uphill and downhill? While some of the trail is very well maintained and smooth, much is not. You can get all of the details, a picture, and a map on the flyer.

This hike has some really fun treats along the way! Get those boots on and join us for a great day outdoors!

Calendar

You can check out what is coming up by checking out our season calendar.

Sunset Crater Campout

We have a reservation at Sunset Crater National Monument for a spring campout May 20-22. Detailed information will be coming as we get closer to the date. Put it on your calendar to save the date! You will not want to miss this!

Keeping It Safe

At the beginning of each hike, we will gather to introduce ourselves, distanced, and ask what everyone is comfortable with. We will also make room for everyone to talk about what they are not comfortable with. This is to be part of the normal discussion, and we ask that you speak out about what you are not comfortable with. Stay safe, and I hope to see you soon, live and in person, 6 feet away. As always you can get more information by emailing  outdoorgroup@phoenixuu.org.
