We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the hateful words and actions of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people.

– Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Our next Racial Justice Collaborative meeting will be on Monday, March 21, from 6:30-8:00pm via Zoom (info below), facilitated by Bonnie Fraser and Diana Edwards.

Last month we talked about how we can build our skills in de-escalating political/racial discussions with friends and families who disagree with us. We found that many of us white folks choose “silence” in order to keep the peace or preserve relationships…but in so doing, may miss opportunities for growth, societal change, and more fully living out the 8th Principle of Unitarian Universalism.

So this month we’re taking the next step, and working on “Conversations That Move Us Beyond White Silence”. Bonnie Fraser and Diana Edwards will be facilitating the discussion, bringing us tips and techniques from the fields of family counseling and conflict management to help us sharpen our skills in speaking out more effectively and practice. Bonnie was a professor of communication and conflict management and has done program work in non-violent communication. Diana is a PhD Psychologist whose practice specializes in relationship issues (et al.) and working with folks to refine their communication skills.

Please read the attachments prior to the meeting. If you can’t open the documents, please contact racialjustice@phoenixuu.org.

All members of the UUCP community are welcome to join.  Looking forward to seeing you!
