About Ordination in the Unitarian Universalist Tradition

(Adapted from the UUA’s Ordination and Installation Handbook)

Ordination is one of the most important traditions of the Unitarian Universalist faith as it represents a congregation’s faith in, and support for, a new minister within our denomination. It is a rite of initiation through which a lay person is welcomed into the community of clergy, usually after years of preparation. In the Unitarian Universalist tradition, the ritual of ordination also allows the minister to use the title of Reverend.

Ordination isn’t just about one person’s ministry. Each congregation has the authority to ordain and call ministers as a sacred privilege and responsibility. As a formal recognition of entry into service as a Unitarian Universalist minister, ordination offers an invitation to individual and communal transformation, as well as an opportunity to serve our faith in the world.

About Brigitta Vieyra

Brigitta Vieyra was birthed into ministry at the Boulder Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Lafayette, Colorado, where she served as a lay leader in various capacities. While at engaging her theological studies, Brigitta completed her hospital chaplaincy internship at AdventHealth, Shawnee Mission and was a faith organizing intern for Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) where she led community safety training and contributed to The Word Is Resistance podcast.. After graduating from the Iliff School of Theology in May 2023, Brigitta was the ministerial intern for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Phoenix.

As a healer, Brigitta helps living systems reconnect to their wholeness and holiness. Her vocational call is to be a ministry of presence where she becomes not just a person, but also a place where love and justice abides.

Help make the ordination, extraordinary!

UUCP Congregants are arranging a potluck to celebrate in gratitude the abundance of our community. If you are a UUCP member, sign up to provide finger food – either a dessert or an appetizer – for all to share. You don’t need to feed the entire flock, just bring what you are able to provide.
